Gratefully receiving windfalls and little lessons in appreciation

 Savoring simple daily pleasures

Isn't it funny how things work out sometimes when you least expect it? Even with my concession of purchasing one item for a wedding in my no buy year, and my careful planning, by pure chance, 2 days before we headed up north to Russell - the picturesque township in the Bay of Islands- a lovely friend delivered to my desk a dress she mentioned wasn't a good fit on her and she thought I might like to try it.

It was soooo much hotter and the climate so dry up there what I'd planned to wear just wasn't going to be suitable or comfortable. SO guess what I ended up wearing!? I paired it with an inexpensive belt I already owned to cinch in the waist, a clutch I'd purchased on Holiday in Fiji last year, and a pair of pre loved Spanish leather sandals- do you know what, I felt like a million dollars. It was perfect for the event and the weather, and was very much appropriate among what the other guests were wearing.

Interestingly, my girls, who looked so grown up and beautiful- and clearly felt lovely in their outfits, were both in "hand me down' dresses too.

During this week I have also had a little fun on Instagram by documenting a week of outfits. Its been a really enjoyable learning experience for me in re appreciating some of my clothes I maybe took for granted- and actually how long I've had some of the items- years and years in some cases, yet still look good, fresh, and timeless. They are classics which are quality garments. Some I even purchased way back then second hand even!

The whole weekend fell into place so perfectly - with dreamy accommodation, picture perfect scenery, and idyllic weather- not to mention a stunning romantic wedding and time with my precious family. It just goes to show its not about what you spend, its about how you pull an outfit together, investing what you can when you can in quality timeless well-made classics, and most importantly, how you wear them- with confidence and an air of je ne sais quoi.

Sydney next week- this will be a real test of my no buy year....eeek!!

I'll leave you this week with a few photos from the beautiful Russell.
